In a statement published on its Facebook page, ASAE says that, in addition to the illegal practice of the profession, the man obtained “undue economic advantages obtained through fraudulent practices in the area of animal health”.

During the crime prevention operation, carried out by the Northern Regional Unit, “an individual was identified who promoted his services through social media, without having the academic qualifications, professional certifications or registration with the respective Order [of veterinarians], illegally practicing acts specific to veterinary medicine”.

According to ASAE, the man presented himself “as a professional in the veterinary field, carried out consultations in his own space and made trips to homes, in clear breach of current legislation and to the detriment of animal health and well-being”.

The criminal proceedings, instituted following a crime prevention operation in Viana do Castelo to combat the illegal practice of regulated professions, were forwarded to the competent judicial authorities.

“ASAE remains alert to the illegal exercise of activities that must be guaranteed by duly qualified professionals”, the note highlights.
